MOTHERS DAY CLASSIC 2003

Super and finance industries make a great run for breast cancer research

INDIVIDUALS and organisations in superannuation and finance came together on Sunday May 11 2003, to get behind the largest charity-focused fun run in Australia, the Women In Super Mother’s Day Classic.

The annual Mothers Day Classic was initiated in 1998 by the National Network of Women in Superannuation. Women in Super, now the largest single annual donor to the Foundation's research program, is a national networking group of women in the superannuation and finance industries.

The Mothers Day Classic is sponsored by Schroder Investment Management Australia Limited, a world leader in asset management and corporate superannuation investment planning. Schroders came on board as a sponsor in 2001, the beginning to a three-year major sponsorship relationship.

Mavis Robertson of Women in Super expressed, “it is essential for the superannuation and finance industries to make a contribution to reduce the impact of a disease which affects thousands of Australian women and families”.

The run took place in Sydney’s Domain at 7.30am and Melbourne’s Tan Track at 9.30am and events were also held in Brisbane, Adelaide and, for the first time, Perth.

And it’s not all exercise! Everyone enjoyed the remarkable number of food stalls, giveaways, information on breast cancer research, entertainment, face painting and jumping castles for the kids.

It was a chance to support vital breast cancer research while having some fun with friends and family. Participating in the 4km or 8km run or walk provided people with a chance to make a difference by generating sponsorship for his or her efforts.
